SOLUTIONS · TRACE

Demand forecasting and CPFR replenishment.

A forecast creates value when it becomes a shared plan. Trace helps connect expected demand with inventory, constraints and replenishment decisions.

THE PROBLEM

Every player plans with a different version.

The manufacturer projects shipments, the distributor sees orders and the point of sale records consumption. When these signals are not reconciled, reactive purchasing, overstock and shortages follow.

A promotion, an assortment change or a logistics delay can make a plan obsolete if nobody reviews it in time.

WHAT CPFR IS

Planning, forecasting and replenishing together.

CPFR stands for Collaborative Planning, Forecasting and Replenishment. It is a process for agreeing on assumptions, sharing signals, reviewing exceptions and adjusting decisions between trading partners.

Software supports that discipline; it does not replace it. Without agreements between the parties, no tool produces a shared plan.

DATA REQUIRED

The signals that feed the plan.

  • Sell-out and sell-in history, kept separate.
  • Inventory and orders in transit.
  • Promotions, commercial calendar and assortment changes.
  • Lead times, purchase minimums and multiples, and capacity.
  • Targets and responsibilities for each participant.

Observed sales are not the same as demand: a period without stock can hide potential consumption. The model has to tell them apart.

THE SOLUTION

From history to a planning cycle.

  1. 01Build a baseline with cleaned data and an agreed horizon.
  2. 02Review scenarios for promotions, seasonality and constraints where data exists.
  3. 03Agree on exceptions across commercial, supply and partners.
  4. 04Translate the plan into replenishment proposals for approval.
  5. 05Compare forecast with outcome, and adjust the cycle.

Trace orchestrates the process and Essential can integrate the sources. Replenishment proposals go through controls and owners; forecast accuracy depends on the data and is measured every cycle.

DELIVERABLES

What can be agreed.

  • Plan by product, channel and horizon.
  • Shared assumptions and calendar.
  • Exception view.
  • Replenishment proposals with their constraints.
  • Monitoring dashboard.

What to measure: forecast error and bias, availability, delivery compliance and preparation time. Metrics and the evaluation window are chosen before the pilot.

REAL CASE

Abbott Central America: less time preparing orders.

Abbott Central America reports 80% less time spent preparing orders using TRACE, with Trixo as commercial partner.

Results reported by Abbott Central America using TRACE. The figure refers to order preparation; it does not measure forecast accuracy or full purchasing automation.

AI WITH CONTEXT

Talking with the plan to review it.

Conversing with the information can help review a plan. Quarks can design queries like this one on a model with clear versions, periods and definitions:

Illustrative question

  • Which products deviated most from the forecast this month?

Cobeca Pulse is Quarks' real reference for conversational AI powered by AWS, through Orbit. An experience like this for planning is defined in each project.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

What happens with a new product?
Comparable products and explicit assumptions are reviewed, and the forecast is adjusted as the product builds history.
Does the AI decide how much to buy?
Not on its own. Proposals are reviewed against their constraints and owners; the level of automation and approval is defined in each project.
